| SHOOTING IN A TOURNAMENT |
| On The Line Targets will be allocated by the Club Secretary or Tournament Organiser. C on each target will be responsible for recording scores on the sheets provided and is known as the Target Captain. D on each target will see that all arrows are correctly called, entered and checked and is known as the Target Lieutenant. At the start of the tournament, the Field Captain will explain any rules and announce the sighter end. Shooting Details It is usual for up to 4 archers to be shooting on the same target and will be labeled A, B, C and D. They will shoot in 2 details with A and B shooting together and C and D shooting together as shown below. 1. A and B shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 2. C and D shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 3. A and B shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 4. C and D shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 5. The Field Captain blows the whistle to signify it is safe to score and retrieve the arrows. 6. C and D shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 7. A and B shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 8. C and D shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 9. A and B shoot 3 arrows and return to the equipment line. 10. The Field Captain blows the whistle to signify it is safe to score and retrieve the arrows. At shorter distances, an end may be 3 arrows and not 6 to minimise arrow damage. Some metric rounds shoot all 6 arrows in 1 detail. AT The Target Each archer will point to (but not touch) each scoring arrow and call each score starting with the highest first. C will record the scores, golds and totals on the score sheet and D will check this is all done correctly. Once all the archers have scored their arrows, they can be removed from the target and any arrows that went behind can be collected. Scoring When scoring, the arrows are called out in groups of 3, starting with the highest score first. After calling the scores for the first 3 arrows, the archer should pause before calling the remaining 3 scores to ensure the scorer has time to repeat and record the scores correctly. e.g. 9 9 7 pause 7 5 3 If a score is entered incorrectly, it should not be amended by the archers, the Judge should be called over and the mistake explained. They will ask the archer to recall all 6 arrows and then amend and initial the score sheet. The standard target face is split into either 5 or 10 zones depending on the round being shot. Imperial Rounds Zone - Gold = Score - 9 Zone - Red = Score - 7 Zone - Blue = Score - 5 Zone - Black = Score - 3 Zone - White = Score - 1 Metric Rounds Zone - Inner Gold = Score - 10 Zone - Outer Gold = Score - 9 Zone - Inner Red = Score - 8 Zone - Outer Red = Score - 7 Zone - Inner Blue = Score - 6 Zone - Outer Blue = Score - 5 Zone - Inner Black = Score - 4 Zone - Outer Black = Score - 3 Zone - Inner White = Score - 2 Zone - Outer White = Score - 1 An arrow that is partly in 2 zones is always scored as the higher scoring zone and is referred to as a line cutter. Where there is doubt as to whether an arrow has cut the line, the Judge should be called to make a decision before any arrows are touched or removed from the target. Occasionally, an archer will do a Robin Hood where their arrow will split another arrow down the middle. If the second arrow remains embedded in the first, then it will take the score of the first arrow. |
